Do you use eco-friendly paint?

Yes — we offer low-VOC and zero-VOC paint options through trusted suppliers like Dulux. These paints are safer for your family and better for the environment, without sacrificing quality.

What type of paint do you use?

We use high-quality, low-odour paints that are ideal for residential interiors.

  • Ceilings: We typically use water-based flat paints for a clean, even finish.

  • Walls: For walls, we use low-VOC latex paints that are durable, washable, and well-suited for everyday living spaces.

  • Trim and Doors: We use durable acrylic paints with a smooth finish that resists scuffs and holds up well to regular cleaning.

  • Stain Blocking & Priming: When needed, we use a specialty oil-based primer to block stains or prep previously oil-painted surfaces.

We select the right type of paint for each surface to ensure a lasting, professional result in every home.

Can you paint over oil-based paint with latex?

Yes — but only with the right prep. The surface needs to be cleaned, de-glossed, and primed with a bonding primer to ensure proper adhesion.

How should I prepare my home before painting?

Here’s how you can help us get started smoothly:

How long will my painting project take?

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes — McHale’s Painters is a fully registered and insured painting business in Ontario. We carry liability insurance and are registered with WSIB, so both you and our team are protected.

While there’s no specific provincial license required for painters in Ontario, we meet all legal and municipal requirements to operate professionally and safely.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes — we stand behind our work. If anything needs touch-up due to our workmanship, just let us know and we’ll make it right. We want you to love the final result.

Do you offer staining?

No — we don’t offer staining services. McHale’s Painters specializes exclusively in interior house painting, including walls, ceilings, doors, trim, and baseboards.

If your project involves wood staining (such as staircases, decks, railings, or cabinetry), we recommend working with a contractor who focuses specifically on that type of finish. Staining requires different materials, prep, and techniques — and we prefer to focus on what we do best.

Can I stay in my home while it’s being painted?

Yes — in most cases, you can stay home while we work. We strive to minimize disruption and keep things tidy. For larger jobs or if we’re painting bedrooms or kitchens, you may prefer to plan around those spaces during the work.

Do you offer colour help?

We don’t offer in-house colour consultations, but we recommend the free virtual colour consultation from Sherwin-Williams. It’s a quick and easy way to get expert advice on your paint colours.
